Negative = Il n’y a pas Il n’y a pas DE bureau dans ma chambre. – There is not a desk in my bedroom. Notice that un/ une and des become DE after a negative expression. This is called the « PAS DE » rule.

Questions using « il y a » Est-ce qu’il y a une chaise dans la salle de classe? Is there a chair in the classroom? Est-ce qu’il y a une moto dans ta chambre? Non, il n’y a pas de moto dans ma chambre. Qu’est-ce qu’il y a dans ton garage? WHAT is in your garage?
