We’re here tonight to raise money for brain tumor victims and research…

…and to celebrate the life of our friend, Chad Bordwell

Chad was a 36 year old loving husband and father of 3 young girls. He was also a son, brother, and friend to many. He was a driven individual, personally as well as professionally as a Direct Supply Partner. He was an avid runner, completing 9 marathons, and a sport enthusiast.

Chad began having headaches in November 2009 just after completing the Chicago marathon (his 9th). He was diagnosed with an astrocytoma/glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) tumor just after Thanksgiving. He faced every challenge in his brief fight head-on. He was able to make it home from the hospital for a week to spend time with his girls, attend their Christmas program, and log some treadmill miles. Chad passed away on December 18, 2009.

During his brief battle with the disease, Chad willingly participated in the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Brain Tumor Research Program. He wanted to be able to help other brain tumor victims saying “I just want to figure out a way to beat this thing, if not for me, then for others.” Chad never failed to tell visitors to be sure to let their loved ones know how much they were loved everyday and to give their kids a hug.

There are nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. Americans living with a brain tumor. Over 138,000 are malignant. Nearly 70,000 new cases of primary brain tumors will be diagnosed this year. 34% will be malignant. This year, nearly 14,000 people will lose their battle with a brain tumor. Sources: American Brain Tumor Association

The causes of brain tumors are currently unknown. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer deaths among children and young adults. There are 120 different types of brain tumors. Sources: National Brain Tumor Society, Acceleratebraincancercure.org

CHASING CHAD IS FORMED First formed in December 2009 as a group to support and inspire Chad when he was in the hospital Many friends pledged to complete the equivalent of a marathon (26.2 miles) of physical activity during the month. Chad asked that we use the enthusiasm and support to help raise money for brain cancer research.

CHASING CHAD MISSION Chasing Chad promotes a healthier lifestyle by striving for and achieving bold fitness goals, while raising money and awareness for Brain Cancer Research in memory of our friend Chad Bordwell

CHASING CHAD MISSION We promote, raise awareness and provide financial and other support to benefit the research and treatment of brain cancer and brain tumors. We participate and organize events that involve and/or encourage physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. We gather, receive, study and disseminate information about the diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer. We assist families that are struggling with or have been affected by brain cancer in the Wisconsin area.

CHASING CHAD ACCOMPLISHMENTS In the past 5 years Chasing Chad has been able to: Donate $70,000 to the Medical College of Wisconsin for their Brain Tumor Research Program (2010 through 2014) Donate 150 books for new patients at Froedtert Hospital Provide thousands of dollars to brain tumor patients helping many of them secure safe treatments Allocate $18,000 for additional local patient support

WHO IS CHASING CHAD? It’s you ……

WHO IS CHASING CHAD? And you…

WHO IS CHASING CHAD? And you…

You are Chasing Chad WHO IS CHASING CHAD?

You are a part of Chasing Chad WHO IS CHASING CHAD?

YOU ARE FUNDING RESEARCH From 2010 through 2015, Chasing Chad has been able to donate over $70,000 to the Medical College of Wisconsin for brain tumor research.

YOU ARE FUNDING RESEARCH Each year, our board meets with MCW doctors and staff to learn about the new technology and advances being made and how our contributions are helping.

YOU ARE FUNDING RESEARCH Excerpt from a report the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center provided to Chasing Chad earlier this year…. All of these programs offer hope for a future free of brain cancer. But increased funding from philanthropy is needed to make this research and other novel and collaborative projects prosper and grow. We are grateful for your past donations to the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center and your generosity to neuro-oncology research here. We hope you will continue to support the valuable Brain Cancer Research Program at the MCW Cancer Center.

MCW DEVELOPMENTS Photodynamic therapy with Photofrin Light technology trial on malignant brain tumors demonstrating long-term survival of 40-50%. Dr. Harry Whelan, professor of Neurology: treatment utilizes photo-sensitizing drugs injected into the bloodstream. The drug accumulates in the cancer cells. A laser light activates the drug, which then attacks the cancer cells and also damages the blood vessels that are feeding the tumor. MCW one of 13 teams to win Neuro Startup Challenge (an open innovation competition) MCW working on a tool for early detection of brain tumors using a marker that detects new blood vessel formation
