3 Apps for Primary Teachers to Organize Center Activities iPossibilities Conference – June 10, 2014 Amanda Hanna

3 Apps to Download Inigma TurboScan – Free Type On PDF - Free

Listening to CDs via iPads! Download a CD Ripper like FairStars CD Ripper. Go to to download this for free. Insert your audio CD into your CD drive. Check which tracks you want to rip. With listening center CDs, I typically only check one. Designate where you want the file to go and name your track. Then click “Extract” and wait for the “ripping” to happen.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Upload your MP3 files online using some sort of media storage. Center Grove uses MediaCast. Please check with your technology department to see if you have something similar to MediaCast if you do not already have it. This is a tutorial for those that have access to MediaCast. Click on the Digital Library tab and then click on Upload Resources.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Select Audio Resource – MP3 and click Next Step. In the next screen, enter the title of your audio file, a brief description, the publisher, copyright date, length of track and any other information that will be helpful information. Then click Next Step.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Select No Expiration Date. Select Limit on Simultaneous Users and enter the number of licensed copies you have. Typically I only have 1 copy so I can only have 1 student using it at a time. If you have multiple audio copies, then you can enter more users. Click Next Step.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Select Applicance-01. This box will pop up. Click Select File(s) for Upload, find your file and upload. Click Finish when it is finished uploading.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Click URL Builder. Click Next Step under Option 2: Advanced URL Enter your username and password. Keep Allow Indefinite Access selected and click on Next Step.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Highlight the URL, right click and copy the link. Click Finished. Your files are stored in your Digital Library. You can always build a URL if you lose it or need to fix a QR code. Go to a QR creator website. I use You can sign up for an account but only get 5 free dynamic codes. I enter all of mine as static. Make sure the gray bar is next to Static. Go to a QR code generator website like There are many out there for free! Paste your URL into the box. Click Generate. Then right click over the QR code and click copy.

Listening to CDs via iPads! Paste your QR code into a Word document. You can create labels or a table. Organize it however you like. I type the title and paste the code underneath. Then I print off a page full of QR codes, cut apart, laminate and tape them to the inside of the matching book. I put the books in a bin for the listening center by season or topic we are learning about. Students use the QR code scanning app, Inigma, to scan the code. Let’s try it!

Saving Paper! Using the TurboScan app, take a picture of the paper or worksheet you want to save online. Adjust the frame around the worksheet and click Next. If you need to add more pages to your document click the plus sign at the bottom. You can save it directly to your Dropbox account by clicking the box or it to yourself as a PDF by clicking the square with an arrow. Dropbox Add pages.

Saving Paper! Save your document to a folder in Dropbox. Right click on that document and click on “Share Dropbox Link.” Paste this link in your QR code creator website like Copy and paste your QR code into a Microsoft Word document. Give it a title and save it to your Dropbox folder. When you are ready for students to access this file, have them scan the QR code using Inigma.

Saving Paper! Now that the QR code has been scanned, follow the next steps to open the document in Type On PDF. Tap “Go Online” in the Inigma screen. Tap the blue “Download” button on the Dropbox screen. Tap the screen so that a bar appears along the top of the document with a button that says “Open in…” Tap this button and tap the app Type On PDF. The document will open in this app.

Saving Paper! Students can type on the PDF by tapping on the “A” button. There are different color pen options, highlighter, eraser, undo and clear all choices under the pencil button. Students can write on the PDF using their finger or a stylus pen. Explore the different options along the top of the app.

Saving Paper! If you would like for your students to “turn in” their completed worksheet, you will need to make sure they have set up on their iPads. When they are finished with their worksheet using Type On PDF, follow these instructions. Tap the green “Send” button. Tap “Hi-Def.” Tap “ .” Tap “Export with ad.” When the opens, I teach students to tap by the word “To” until the keyboard pops up. Tap the first letter of my last name, H. Tap my and press Send!

Post this poster in your room to help students remember what to do when they send an from the Type On app.

Ways to incorporate these apps into organizing centers: Use QR codes to allow students to access anything! Worksheets Books on CD Activities Check answers Incorporate Type On PDF into any center students typically use paper. With TurboScan you can easily scan any of your hard copies and save them in Dropbox. Create your own activities or search for great ideas using Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers.
