Places to Find Free and Legal Images - One Cats and Kittens – DPLA - Getty Images probably has the largest selection of free images out there — 50 million of them. Check out the Embed Our Images page to find out how to use the service. Your website needs to support iframe embeds.Getty ImagesEmbed Our Images iframe embeds Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is nothing less than the portal for all public domain and open-licensed digital content. DPLA is a great source for historical images and fine arts images. For more about DPLA, read my blog post about it.Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)blog post Google Advanced Image SearchGoogle Advanced Image Search lets you filter your search by usage rights. It has a massive selection, but use rights are sometimes not clear.usage rights

Places to Find Free and Legal Images - Two Stock Photos That Don't Suck Logo52 Verve hosts an excellent list of 27 different sites that supply images that can be used for free. For instance, Pic Jumbo is a great site for abstract images.VervePic Jumbo images-for-commercial-use/ images-for-commercial-use/ morgueFile is a great place to look for cute cat (or baby or puppy) images you can add captions to and turn in to memes. Places to Find Free and Legal Images - Three Baboon Pixabay Free Images is an easy to use site with an open Image license agreement Image licenses are underneath each picture. They have, to date, around 400,000 images and are a great place for holiday themed images.Free ImagesImage license agreement You can use logos and product images from the manufacturer without permission. This is covered under the U.S. Copyright Fair Use Doctrine. One caveat you can't post a company logo up on your website in a way that makes it look like your website is part of that company.use logos and product imagesFair Use Doctrine When in doubt, ASK or don’t use it! Pixabay.comPixabay.com has over a quarter million public domain images. Pixabay mostly has really pretty stock image type photos in 20 different categories. I find browsing the categories more useful than their search function.

How TechSoup Uses Images (or Tries To) 54 Make sure photos are clear, in focus, and not blurry when displayed at the size you want to use them. Try to show the impact of your organization's work. If you help people, show the people you're helping. If you clean up a park, take before and after pictures of the work you did. Wherever possible, choose natural or unposed images, rather than showing a group of people smiling at the camera. For example, pictures of volunteers working will be more compelling than a smiling group posed for the camera. For event photos, try to show more than the standard "person with a microphone" images. Mix it up. Use group shots, wide shots, and close-ups of attendees.
