RESEARCH & INNOVATION SHOWCASE Dr Trish Murray Senior Lecturer in Stem Cell/Developmental Biology, ITM Senior scientist in the UK Regenerative Medicine Platform Safety and Efficacy Hub, focussing on imaging technologies Key interests: - Potential of regenerative medicine therapies (RMTs) to treat kidney disease - Development of imaging strategies to assess efficacy, safety and mechanisms of action of RMTs

RESEARCH & INNOVATION SHOWCASE We use a range of imaging technologies to monitor efficacy and safety of cell therapies and understand their mechanisms of action 3 weeks 4 d 3 h Safety Efficacy Biluminescence imaging shows some cell types form tumours Photoacoustic imaging shows effects of RMTs on renal function Mechanisms Therapeutic effects mediated by endocrine factors

RESEARCH & INNOVATION SHOWCASE Our results suggest that therapeutic effects are likely to be mediated by ‘extracellular vesicles’ (EVs) derived from the cells These EVs are likely to be more effective and safer than cell based RMTs What is needed from an industry partner? QA, scale-up
