Now that you’re together Introduce yourselves What has brought you to Denver (native, job, skiing)? What are you most excited about for next year? What are some of your biggest fears for next year?

A little bit about our school Our Mission: Steele’s mission is to provide children with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to become productive citizens in a dynamic and diverse society. We seek high academic achievement by providing a challenging environment and by fostering cooperation between students. Steele offers four different electives and two educators in every classroom. The Steele Code At Steele we do the right thing. We respect ourselves, each other, our school and our community. We treat everyone with kindness, compassion and a forgiving spirit. We have the courage to take risks and learn from our mistakes. We are responsible for our actions, our words and our learning. We tell the truth even when it is difficult. The challenge of being a parent “Kevin, you have to remember that parenting is a process of letting go.” Alan Schroeder

First day things to know about: Classroom Drop-offs can be hard! The kids handle it better than you might think so trust that they will be ok after dropoff. We will be monitoring your child closely and will call if there are ever any major challenges Your teacher will pick your child up outside at their designated pick-up spot Immediately following dropoff, a Parent Social will take place in playground If you are concerned about your child’s ability to navigate throughout the school, we have it covered! Kindergarten, elementary school in general, has become more rigorous over the years. They will be very tired during the first week of school Kids will have a tour of the school on the first day so will be able to find their way around 17

Some things to know about the first week of school There is a good chance your kindergartner will be very tired! Teachers will build community while starting academics in their classes They may or may not eat all of their lunch. This is normal.

How to help your child get ready for school this summer Spend a lot of time with them! Have them interact in social situations – Play dates There was a yellow sheet when you checked in today; if you provided your information you will be contacted about dates and times via – Team events – Get used to interacting with other kids Make reading a fun part of your life together Popsicle Social! There is also a popsicle social with the staff the Friday before school starts
