Important Things to help Structure the Workload for your Unit Project Counts as a project grade for 4th quarter grade Pick one animal & conduct research on it. Create a PowerPoint on an animal that teaches someone the structures, processes, and responses that enable it to survive. – At least 11 slides but not more than 20 Each page/slide must have short, bulleted information Each page/slide must have a picture Due Monday, May 19, which will be presented – Save PowerPoint on flashdrive OR – your final PowerPoint to

Slide/Page 1: Title Page A catchy title that captures your audience’s attention and why they should look at your presentation. Your names Date Picture

Slide/Page 2: What is its classification? Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species Include its scientific name at the bottom in big letters.

Slide/Page 3: What are its characteristic structures? (6-3.1) Must explain why your animal belongs in a certain group of vertebrates – what characteristics puts it in that group? What does it look like? Weight, Height, color, texture, special features.

Slide/Page 4: Summarize the basic functions that allow them to defend themselves, to move, and to obtain resources. (6-3.2) What are its structures for defense? What are its structures for movement? What are its structures that allow it to obtain what they need (resources)?

Slide/Page 5: How does your animal respond to temperature changes within the environment? (6-3.3) Is your animal ectothermic or endothermic? What does this mean? What does your animal do if it gets too hot? What does your animal do if it gets too cold?

Slide/Page 6: How does your animal physically respond to stimuli in its environment? (6-3.4) How does your animal respond to temperature changes that help maintain internal temperatures? – Blinking – Shivering – Sweating – Panting – Shedding – Food gathering – Does it store food? How? Why?

Slide/Page 7: How does your animal cope with changes in their environments? How do they behave? (6-3.5) Hibernation? Migration? Courtship (Mating)? Grouping?

Slide/Page 8: How does your animal’s internal stimuli ensure its survival? (6-3.6) *How do these stimuli allow them to live longer? -Hunger Thirst – Sleep

Slide/Page 9: Are the behaviors your animal exhibits inherited or learned? Are they both? Does it have any learned behaviors? – What are they? – Imprinting or Conditioning Does it have any inherited behaviors? – Swimming, crying, lay its eggs?

Slide/Page 10: What is the most interesting fact about your animal?

Slide/Page 11: References Page Must use and include at least three references. One reference must be a book. – On this page, list the name of book and author. Only two references can be Internet websites. – The entire URL must be given on the page. List those individuals (parents, teachers, other adults) who helped you complete your project.

Tips: How to make a PowerPoint “Top Quality?” Must have a title slide with your name and date. Always use 32 point font & different color Use lots of pictures; rotate them from one side to the other. Title slides should all be one font and the text should be a different font. Do not write long sentences!! Use bulleted facts. Use only brief fragments or words to expand upon what you want to say. Use pictures or even embed an Internet video (must be classroom appropriate).
