1.Hotel Milestones Ancient Times 600 B.C. Boarding Houses existed. First resorts in Greece – mineral and hot springs Mansiones built along Roman roads to house government sanctioned travelers; inns existed for others Roman Spas spread to England, Switzerland, Middle East; introduced campona (inns) in England. Caravansaries, cloistered courtyard caravan stops in Middle East and khans, small inns, established in towns.

1.Hotel Milestones Middle Ages Manorial lords, abbeys and monasteries Monastic Inns run by religious orders, Hospices built as hospitals and shelters for travelers Some inns developed in larger towns (no meals) Rooming Houses used as relay stations for mail, government transport, rest stops and changing houses. Hospitalers created shelters for Crusaders traveling to Holy Land.

1. Hotel Milestones 1100’s – Travel safer in Europe. Inns prospered with freedom to travel 1200’s – Guest houses and courier stations developed in China and Mongolia 1300’s – The English country inn developed. French law required innkeepers to replace stolen property plus 3 x its value as damages to travelers. 1920’s – Hotel boom #1 generated by economic prosperity 1950’s – Hotel boom #2 generated by expanded education and travel 1980’s – Hotel boom #3 generated by innovative marketing and development of specialized types of hotels. 1990’s – Hotel Boom #4 generated by advanced technology, imaginative design and marketing of maps customization of hotels, resorts and leisure-time amenities.

1.Hotel Milestones – In the Philippines 1976 – Hotel boom to accommodate visitors to ___. The hotels built during this time were The Peninsula, The Mandarin, Manila Garden Hotel (Hotel Nikko then Dusit), Philippine Plaza, Manila Midtown Hotel (Ramada), Silahis Hotel, The Hyatt, Holiday Inn, Century Plaza Hotel etc. 1990’s – APEC summit stimulated the hotel industry with several new hotels plus the economic boom spurred development of new hotels and the renovation of several existing hotels.
