Details, details..... Deep under the sea, Hector the dophin lived in a place called Silicon Deep. Here, his friend Ranjeet the crab had made a computer out of all the junk that he had found in the sea. Ranjeet wanted to use the computer to go on the internet to meet new friends.

One day, Hector found Ranjeet and their friends Ming, Sprat and Tama. They were watching Ranjeet use his new computer. He was going to start chatting online.

I'm excited! I've never seen anyone chat using a computer before! Maybe me and Ranjeet can play games online and play other people!

I'm worried that Ranjeet will share too much personal information with strangers.

Hector suddenly realised that there are scary people who may want to harm Ranjeet. He shouldn't be giving his personal information to them on the computer.

Just as Ranjeet was about to give his personal information, Hector told Tama to zap the computer to stop it working.

PC Jim had been watching Hector and his friends. He came to talk to them. Now listen. If you give your personal information like your name, where you live, how old you are and where you go to school, you might attract people who could harm you.

Hector has a good idea. He thinks of a way Ranjeet can still use the computer and keep his personal details safe. Watch this video to see the story and find out about Hector's good idea. Click on the screen to watch the video.

Hector had a good idea! Why didn't Ranjeet use a nickname instead? Then he could still chat online but he wouldn't be giving any personal information. Tama zapped the computer again and Ranjeet and his friends had fun thinking of the nicknames he could use. Go back to the flipchart to add nicknames.
