Classroom Procedures and Expectations Health and PE Mrs. Wright

Why Should We Have Procedures in Our Classroom?

Procedures are a part of life. They allow complex operations to run smoothly with minimal confusion, low stress, and less wasted time. ● Airports ● Driving ● Restaurants ● Movies ● School Where else are procedures practiced?

Classroom and Academic Expectations

Classroom Expectations ●The atmosphere in this classroom will be formal and academic, but comfortable. ●Students will work hard, learn about Health and PE, and enjoy the process. ●Cell Phone use will not be permitted unless otherwise specified. ●If a visitor walked into our classroom during the day, what should they see?

I expect students to do the following things to make sure the classroom runs smoothly: ●Attend class, and arrive on time. ●Have materials ready when the bell rings. ●Listen when others are speaking. ●Follow directions the first time they are given. ●Be polite and respectful toward each other. ●Stay on-task and focused on Health or PE

Academic Expectations ●Come to class on time and have materials ready. ●Follow teacher’s directions and complete assignments. ●Work hard and enjoy the process. ●Do your best.

Daily Procedures

Entering the Classroom Procedure 1.Enter the room quickly and quietly. 2.Pick up handouts on the Bell Ringer table. 3.Get materials and be seated. 4.Read the bell ringer assignment posted on the board and start working. 5.If you finish the bell ringer assignment early, work on something else quietly. 6.Quietly, patiently wait for instruction.

Bell Ringer Procedure 1.Pick up handouts, be seated, and gather materials for class. 2.Read the bell ringer assignment on the board and start working. 3.Do not wait for the teacher or the bell. 4.If you finish the bell ringer assignment early, find something quiet to work on while others are finishing.

What is A Bell Ringer? ●Reading the handouts or worksheet directions ●Current events assignment ●Getting materials ready ●Content discussion in table groups ●Reading assignment ●Writing assignment ●Puzzles ●Will be picked up at random times to be graded.

When you finish work early... ●Complete your journal entry ●quietly read a book. ●organize your planner or homework. sit quietly. ●work on homework. ●wait patiently.

Daily Schedule Health Class ●Bell Ringer assignment ●Daily objective and agenda ●Teacher–instructions/Modeling ●Student–guided instruction/Practice ●Assessment/Closure

Daily Schedule PE ●Come down the back hallway ●Get dressed out 7 minutes from time bell rings ●Warm-Up/Stretch ●Teacher Instruction ●Activity ●Closure/Cool Down ●10 minutes to Re-Dress

Class Opening Procedures I. Bell Ringer assignment time A. Students work on bell ringer B. Teacher takes attendance, returns papers and checks on individual students as needed. C. Watch announcements II. After the bell ringer assignment A. Teacher announces daily/weekly agenda. B. Teacher discusses returned papers/feedback. C. Bell Ringer follow up. D. Daily lesson begins.

Thursday’s Bulldog Best Day Each Thursday in Health class the first 30 minutes of class will be utilized as a “catch-up” time in class. Items will be handed back Poor quality work will be redone Time to work on projects/assignments

Tardy Procedure (1) ●Go to the front office and get a tardy pass, bring the tardy pass to the teacher ●Enter the classroom quietly, pick up the daily handouts, and join in the classroom activities with minimal disruption. ●If your bottom is not in your seat or in the locker room when the bell rings you are tardy.

Tardy Procedure (2) ●A tardy results in ASD (After School Detention) ●Continuing tardies result in more ASD and eventually Friday School. ●If you are more than 10 minutes late to class (unexcused), it will be counted as skipping class and will result in a referral.

Absence Procedure ●When you are absent, check with your classmates to find out what you missed. ●You will have three days to complete your missed work. ●It is completely your responsibility to turn in make-up work on time. ●You will not get your daily participation points for that day unless you make up your work (Health or PE) ●Check the absence folder for any missed work/notes.

Listening to and Responding to Questions ●When we are having class discussions, raise your hand to be called on and actively listen to whoever is speaking. ●Teacher will give specific instructions when students are to call out answers without first raising their hands. ●Ask only questions that are relevant to the lesson. ●Be respectful of all comments and ideas, even if they differ from yours.

Getting the Class’ Attention I will say, “Listen up” or “I need your attention” and I will hold up my hand. When you see my hand you are to 1) stop what you are doing. 2) look at the teacher. 3) wait for instruction.

Walking in the Hall Procedure When we are walking in the hall (fire drills, writing lab, outdoors) ●Stay with the group. ●Go quickly and quietly to the destination.

End of the Day Dismissal Procedure 1.Hand in daily work in turn in box. 2.Put away materials. Make sure desk area is neat and trash is picked up. 3.When the bell rings, be seated and look at the teacher (All students must be seated). 4.Teacher dismisses class. 5.Proceed quickly and quietly out the door.

Classroom Rules

Be on time and prepared for class when the bell rings. Be polite and courteous to others. Stay seated and on task. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Follow teacher’s directions the first time they are given.

Classroom Consequences ●Verbal warning ●Loss of Daily Points ●Seating change ●Send to control room with referral (always results in parent phone call) ●Conference with teacher ●Call parents ●Referrals with parent contact

Behavior Intervention Sent out of the classroom Calls to parents Office referral Work with others to develop a behavior plan Create action plan to determine a better behavior

Students Leaving the Classroom ●Get permission from the teacher without disrupting class. ●You must have a hall pass to leave the room. ● Teacher will not sign passes to go to your car.

Bathroom Use ●The best time for bathroom use is between classes. ●You must get permission from the teacher without disrupting class. Please do not ask when teacher is providing instruction. ●Only one person at a time will use the bathroom. ●More than 3 people “needing” to go to the bathroom in a class period will result in no one going for the remainder of the week.

Student’s Sudden Illness ●Tell teacher where you are going. ●Go to the nurse or restroom. ●Follow up with the teacher when you are better. ●Note: You should not be “suddenly ill” very often.
