Articulation routes from FE to HE Dorothée Leslie Director of Curriculum (HE) Thursday 21 st January 2016 Grove High School

What are HNCs and HNDs Higher National Certificates (HNCs) at SCQF 7: 96 SCQF credit points Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) at SCQF 8: 240 SCQF credit points They are developed by SQA in partnership with Scottish colleges, universities, industry and commerce. They focus on different occupational areas and prepare people with the knowledge and some experience to work in these areas. Very practical qualifications, so it is not just theory. Assessment is ongoing during the course with no formal exams. Assessment includes questions, essays and projects. More than a third of SQAs HND portfolio has formal links with one or more professional bodies. Exemptions (partial and full) to professional body exams Accepted as a membership entry requirement

Entry to & what to do with an HNC / HND ? Recommended qualification for entry to an HNC or HND course:  a programme of national Units and / or National 5 appropriate to the course  two passes at Higher or above for entry to a full time College based course Progression opportunities:  Stepping off point into employment as HNCs and HNDs are specially designed to meet the needs of employers both locally and internationally.  Advanced entry into the second / third year of a degree programme D&A College has articulation agreements in place with a number of Universities Individual HN Units HN credits may also be considered by some Universities in the context of their respective admission policies.
