2 APIMONDIA A general definition Apimondia is the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations and other organisations working within the apicultural sector The Federation was founded by resolutions passed at the XIII International Apicultural Congress of 1949 in Amsterdam and is the successor to the International Apicultural Congress Secretariat founded in It is an organisation of unlimited duration

3 APIMONDIA Objectives Apimondia exists to promote apicultural scientific, technical and economic development in all countries, and the co-operation of beekeepers’ associations, scientific bodies and individuals involved in apiculture world-wide It also aims to put into practice every initiative that can contribute to improving apiculture practice and to rendering the products obtained from this activity profitable The humanitarian aspect of the beekeeping activities are important to APIMONDIA

7 APIMONDIA Standing Commissions Rural Development Mission Beekeeping is an activity that can help people to create sustainable livelihoods and give them valuable sources of income and nutrition, and yet the input costs can be very low. Beekeeping is a highly sustainable form of agriculture that is beneficial to the environment and provides economic reasons for people to look after their local habitat The purpose of the Commission is to provide a forum for sharing information on how apiculture can contribute to the development of sustainable livelihoods

8 APIMONDIA Membership 3 categories of membership Full member with voting rights (based on number of hives and beekeepers registered). Consisting of associations representing beekeepers at national or local level. Fees from Euro 150 to Euro 1,750 Associate member with one vote each. Representing organisations operating in the beekeeping sector. Fees Euro 150 Individual member with no voting rights. Fees Euro 50
