Standards Children have clear learning objectives for every lesson and the teacher marks the work according to this objective. Children have short focused next steps to help them achieve their end of year target. Children respond to their feedback using a ‘purple polishing pen’. The children are involved in assessing their performance and encouraged to work towards improving their skills.

Building Independence : A range of responsibilities are given to the children, including: Recycling Officers Junior Energy Monitors Prefects Various monitors

Homework Reading: We expect the children to read for 20 minutes each night. Children can record their reading in their planners which will be checked weekly. Spelling: Children will be allocated a spelling pattern on a Wednesday. The children will research words which follow the given pattern and be tested the following Wednesday. English: The children will receive a grammar or writing homework every Friday. In most cases this will be due in the following Tuesday. Times tables: The children will be expected to be learning their times tables as is needed. Regular tests will take place in school. Maths: Maths homework will be allocated on a Monday. The homework will be due in the following Thursday

Home Learning Problems? Look at any information given. Encourage your child to ask for help in school – have a go on the night it’s been given if possible. Send us an . Come in and see us.

At home... Read anything! Join a library or a book club, Read magazines, games instructions, newspapers, signs etc... Write for a purpose: Postcards, shopping lists, thank you letters, web page etc. Use Maths: Cook, look for patterns, shop, set video etc. Science -Notice the world: Point out clouds, weather patterns, plants and seeds, landforms etc.

How can you help your child at home? Establish routines: –Provide a quiet place for home learning away from the TV and siblings and at a table –Encourage them to be physically active, eat well and sleep! Read aloud with your children – ask them questions about what has been read [opinion + why] Support Home Learning tasks on a regular basis – little and often if possible Encourage them to tackle tasks independently at first – then offer support e.g. ‘Let’s look at the example together’ Be Practical- hands on learning is best!
