 What is the Kentucky Readiness initiative? The goal is to screen every child to determine readiness skills and to rate every child rated on KY Readiness Scale  The purpose of Kentucky’s Common Kindergarten Entry Screen initiative: To identify children’s readiness in order to plan instruction To identify children who may need a closer look for Interventions 2 State Requirement for BRIGANCE

 A brief procedure (10-15 minutes per child) used to identify children’s strengths and needs and help plan instruction  Can also be used to identify children who may need additional intervention or ultimately evaluation  A tool for program evaluation 3 BRIGANCE

No sooner than 15 days before school starts No later than the 30 th instructional day, September 19 th Our district completed screeners August rd Selected faculty/staff trained for giving screener and trained for using online management system 4 Our Screening Window

 Kindergarten Core Assessments-REQUIRED  state provided 1 kit per K classroom  Supplemental Assessments-Recommended  Self-help and Social-Emotional Scales-REQUIRED  school makes copies of paperwork for parents  parents are also asked to complete ‘prior settings’ information upon enrollment for infinite campus  Reading Readiness Scale-Recommended 5 REQUIRED sections

1. What are we doing to address the needs of these students right now? Interventions through RTI Kindergarten Readiness Classrooms Individualized instruction

2. What are we doing to address this in the future? Changes at the preschool. Earlier kindergarten enrollment dates as to have access to these students sooner. Informational meetings before students reach kindergarten. Communicate with parents through the Spencer Magnet and through the mail. Invite all preschool students to the activities at SCES and TES regardless of the school they will attend.
