The Child Development Lifeline Ages and Stages

The Developmental Theory This is generalizations that provide frameworks for understanding why people change as they grow older.

The Four Stages Physical Cognitive Moral Social/Emotional

Identify the ages that change occurs? Infancy (0-12mts) Toddler (1-2yrs) Pre-School (3-4yrs) Kindergarten (5-6yrs) Elementary School (6-11yrs) Junior High (12-14yrs) High school (15-18yrs)

Explain “Physical” Development Physical Development is using large (legs/arms) and Fine (fingers) motor skills to preform something. Using Large and small muscles to complete a task. Example: tie shoelaces at 5yrs or hitting puberty at 12yrs

Identify “Cognitive” Development This is a persons intellectual thoughts Using their brain/thinking ability to accomplish tasks Examples: understands before and after at 5yrs and having a longer attention span at age 8yrs.
