REGIONAL CONTRACT EDUCATION UNITS

2-YEAR PROCESS OF BUILDING THE COLLABORATIVE YEAR 1  Started with monthly meetings in August 2014 to establish relationship and trust as well as “what is in it for me” and the college with one another (one month in person for 2-hours from 12-2 p.m. and one month via CCC Confer for 1-hour from 12-1 p.m.)  Discussed what services our units provide  Discussed what pricing structures our units offered  Discussed best practices and offerings for duplication consideration  Invited regional DSNs into our meeting conversations  Project-based conversations (EDA Grant, IDRC Grants, Slingshot, DWM, and ETP were all projects that we had “partnered” on)

YEAR 1 OUTCOMES MERCED COLLEGE BECKY BARABÉ AND TERRY PLETT Core: Soft Skill & Leadership (Customer Service Academy & Emerging Leadership Institute), Diversity (Generational & Cultural), Technologies (Excel, MS 2013, Social Media) Certificates: BAR Smog, ServSafe, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Contractor: Ag, Manufacturing, Banks/Credit Unions, School Districts/College/Universities, ETP Drought (Water/Wastewater Training, Electrical Industrial Maintenance – electrical/PLC) Partnership: Merced WIB, Merced County, Human Service Agency (HSA), Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce Grant: EDA, IDRC (maintenance mechanic), RHTLE/GTL DSNs KERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT DAVE TEASDALE AND BILL ELLIOTT Core: Core Construction, Solar & Solar Cells, Wind Tech, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Industrial Robotics, Crane (hydro tons, bridge 32 ton), First Responder Certificates: NCCER, CPR, Confided Space, HAZWhopper, LOTO (lock out tag out), Oilfield Passport, Lead & Asbestos Awareness, OSHA, NCCER (Bill is a trainer) Contractor: ETP (manufacturing, energy producers, solar companies) Partnership: Chevron, ETP, Wells Fargo Grant: Chevron (core construction), Wells Fargo (veterans) Big New: Leadership Institute

2-YEAR PROCESS OF BUILDING THE COLLABORATIVE CONT. YEAR 2  Transitioned to every other month meeting in August 2015 ONLY in-person for 2- hours from 12-2 p.m. to discuss regional collaboration possibilities  Started working more closely with our Advanced Manufacturing DSN Gurminder Sangha and statewide Contract Education TAP Sandra Sisco to align with regional plans for service delivery  Started conversations around regional marketing and collaborating on a regional schedule of training  Started conversations around cost and/or faculty and trainer sharing

YEAR 2 KEY STEPS  August-October 2015: Pulled together content for regional marketing  November 2015-February 2016: Pulled together content for regional training pilot AND worked with web developer to pull together a draft of a regional website  February 5, 2016: Extended collaborative meeting with all partner colleges  Confirmed layout and content of the regional website  Confirmed regional training pilot content, descriptions, locations, and pricing  March 3, 2016: Launched regional website and regional training pilot in Manufacturing  All Contract Ed units had vendor booths at the regional Manufacturing Summit  All Contract Ed units disseminated the regional CE flyer and pilot Manufacturing training flyer  Presentation break-out session covered the resources available through CE units regionally  April 29, 2016: Convened regional faculty and trainers for discussion regarding regional training pilot in Manufacturing

AUGUST-OCTOBER 2015 PULL TOGETHER THE INFORMATION  Each college provided:  A link to the Contract Ed unit’s website (if available),  Marketing collateral, and  Filled out the chart to the right.

FEBRUARY 5 TH : PT 2 CONT.  Worked through regional training pilot content and descriptions,  Confirmed locations and target training sites throughout the calendar year, and  Calculated pricing that would be supported by the entire region for this offerings.

APRIL 29, 2016: CONVENED REGIONAL FACULTY AND TRAINERS REGARDING REGIONAL TRAINING PILOT  NCCER Master Trainers reviewed customized curriculum with regional instructors and trainers  Electrical Safety  Motor Controls  Discussed importance of consistency across the region so that regional manufacturers receive the same training in all locations  Discussed interests in:  Pulling manufacturing employers together regionally or subregionally to discuss:  Pipelines for workers (Community Colleges, Workforce Development Boards, Human Services)  Incumbent worker training needs (expand the regional offerings up to 10 with industry certification options available)  Internships and/or apprenticeships  Reviewing the Food Processing Maintenance Mechanic Skill Standards Report completed in 2013 to make sure that skill sets and levels of competency are consistent with CTE classes and CE offerings

NEXT STEPS  Continue regional meetings every other month as CE units  Set up continuing regional faculty and trainer convenings in Fall 2016  Set up regional manufacturing employer convenings twice a year  Coordinate subregional Manufacturing Day events in October 2016  Support and assist with the annual Manufacturing Summit targeted for April/May 2017 in Fresno
