Career Talk of a Scientist You could put any picture here. This was one which my son drew of a scientist

Subjects I took at school Think about what subjects you did and why you chose them.

What influenced me? Was there a particular teacher who made the subject come alive? How did they make it interesting? Was there any TV show which enthused you? E.g. Life on Earth or Dr Who? Did you have a visit from a scientist at school? Was there a scientist who you admired? Perhaps insert some pictures here to illustrate

Why I decided to become a scientist Was there any particular event which happened which made you really excited? E.g. Mars landing Was there anything you were really good at or enjoyed? Was there any experiments you did at school or home which made you want to pursue science? Was there a question you wanted to know the answer to, or problem you wanted to solve?

What I studied and where I did it I chose this degree because? I went to this university because? I decided to do a PhD because? How long did this process take? Did you have any pivotal experiences? Did you enjoy it? Was this what you expected?

What do I do now? Describe your job What research are you doing? (remember to keep this straightforward for a public/school audience-keep it short and simple) What do you do each day? Do you get to travel and meet new people? Do you have an pictures of yourself working in the lab or doing field work?

What I enjoy most about being a scientist Personal satisfaction Enjoy meeting people and travelling I am naturally curious I enjoy answering questions and solving problems I like learning new things I love lab/field work/doing experiments I like being competitive and being the first to discover something new I like communicating Anything else you can think of which will inspire others

My future Where do you see yourself in five years time? What are the different possibilities and career prospects? What are the next big science questions in your field?

Does anyone have any questions? Be prepared to answer lots of different questions
