INTRODUCTION  A digital image is fundamentally composed of a series of “pixels”, a word derived from combining “picture” and “element”.  By coloring and brightening these individual pixels, a digital picture emerges.  Traditionally, a photograph implies the truth of what has happened.

INTRODUCTION  But in today, sometimes ‘seeing is no longer believing’.  our life is full of digital images and tampering these digital images done easily by using digital processing tools such as Photoshop.

Definition  Digital Image forgery : - the process of changing material elements of an image and representing the changes as true copies of the original.  any modification, alteration or enhancement of the image.

 Can we trust photographs??  An image altered for fun cannot be considered a forgery even though it has been altered from its original capture. Company Logo

 For news coverage, certain types of modifications (cropping, straightening verticals, adjusting colors and gamma etc.) may or may not be acceptable.  Certain times we need to test images for their originality - used as evidence to criminal cases.

Copy move forgery  A common form of photo manipulation is to copy and paste portions of an image to replicate an object or conceal a person in a scene.

Composite image forgery Company Logo  An attempt to make an image by combining images from different documents. It is known as compositing.

Forgery Detection Methods  2 types: Active and Passive methods
