Behavior 1) On task 2) Try best 3) Raise hand 4) Silent  1. Before you read your article—predict the central idea by using the text features (note it on your article)  2. As you read your article, ask yourself—is this a reliable source? (Author, Publisher, Date, Bias…)  3. Make a journal entry for the article you are reading and take notes about your issue using:  Two Column Notes  Cornell Notes  Or a list Note statistics—what do they tell you about the social issue? Why is the author using it?  4. Note the text structure on your article.  5.Conference with Mr. Knight

Group Discussion  Based on what you have read and reviewed the last two days:  What is the issue?  Ex. School start times are a controversial issue because research shows late start times benefit academics, but early start times are better for families and extra-curricular activities.  What are the reasons for/against that you’ve found so far?  For: Improve focus/health  Against: Cost of buses

Behavior Expectations: 1) On task 2) Try best 3) Raise hand 4)Conversational  1) Open up to pg in your planner.  2) With your group—determine what pages you will have read by each book club meeting.  March 4 th, March 11 th, March 18 th, and March 25 th  Book finished by March 25 th.  3) Decide who will be discussion leader each week (group of 5? Double up. Group of 3? Someone goes twice )  Sign up in the back…if you don’t—I assign. *Villainous Laughter*

Stand at desk for dismissal  1) Read (2/26 to 3/4 minute check. 4=151 minutes)  2) Create sticky notes (Hmm…my prediction agents in 5 th period said tomorrow sounded like “Best Sticky Note” Day!)  3) Continue research at home (counts as home minutes)
