How to Access and Use Them

The eBooks may be accessed by multiple users at a time and they’ll never “disappear” from your device. They’re available over any Internet connection, 24/7/365.

1.Go to the MHS site at: 2.Under the “Academics” tab click on Digital Library. 3.Click on “Card Catalog” on the left sidebar. 4.Choose the High School site if prompted/ click on Catalog. 5.Choose the dropdown arrow for “Material Type” and select Electronic Books (eBooks). 6.Put your cursor in the “FIND” box and hit Enter. 7.You will now see a list of all the eBooks we have. 8.Of course, you can always “FIND” a book by subject, title, or author.

We have purchased eBooks from a variety of publishers and each company has its own way of providing access. When you click on a title in the card catalog, it will take you to a screen describing the book. One of the lines will tell you to “Click on the hotlink below” and what the username and /or password is. Just click on the hotlink and sign in with the aforementioned username / password. On the next screen we’ll talk about MackinVIA access.

Mackin eBooks use a different access method called MackinVIA. If you get this screen, type in Mahtomedi High School and use zephyrs and zephyrs for the User ID and Password.

Click on the red button to “READ NOW”or “OPEN NOW.” When the book has loaded, you’ll find a picture of the cover, all your bibliographic information, a Table of Contents if it has one…it’s a REAL BOOK! If your teacher requires you to use a REAL BOOK as a resource, any eBook qualifies because it is indeed a real book that happens to be in digital format. Here’s what your screen will look like before you click on the red button.

Mackin eBooks need an additional setup step before they can be accessed by Apple devices. You may get the MackinVIA app here: …and here’s more info on its features: You login to MackinVIA on your Apple device by downloading the app and using your school’s name (Mahtomedi High School) and your network name/password (lastname-firstname and your student ID number).

Mahtomedi Middle School has all the Classics and you may access those by searching their card catalog. Go to: and click on the Academics’ tab / Media Center-Library. Click on the Destiny Library Catalog on the left sidebar. Choose Mahtomedi Middle School. Click on the Catalog tab. From the Material Type dropdown arrow choose Electronic Books (eBooks), put your cursor in the FIND box and hit ENTER. You now have a list of all the eBooks at the Middle School. Access them by clicking on the hotlink, typing in Mahtomedi Middle School, and use mahtomedi for both the User Name and Password. You need to “check out” the book. Just use your network username and password when prompted.
