RESOURCE AND SITUATION STATUS RECORD F-666 SANTA MONICA FIRE DEPARTMENT COMMAND AND CONTROL TRAINING OCTOBER 7 TH – 9 TH 2014

Todd Cremins Firefighter / Emergency Incident Technician (Battalion 13 “B”) 12 years of Fire Service experience. 8 years of LAFD experience. South Pasadena / Pasadena FD (4 years)

WHAT’S OUR OBJECTIVE? To develop a systematic and effective approach to maintaining Resource Status (RE-STAT) and Situational Status (SIT-STAT) during an incident.

REMEMBER… During stressful situations, we will not rise to the level of expectation, we will fall to the level our training.

“NIOSH FIVE”

WHAT ARE THEY? 1. Improper risk assessment (poor size- up). 2. Lack of incident command. 3. Lack of accountability. 4. Inadequate communications. 5. Lack of SOGs or failure to follow established SOGs

HOW DO THEY RELATE TO OUR TRAINING TODAY?

F-666

DEVELOPING A SYSTEMATIC AND EFFECTIVE APPROACH 1. Division/Group Column 2. Staging Column 3. Units Assigned Column Safety Officer Box (RED) Medical Unit Box (BLUE) Location of R.I.C./R.I.G. Box (RED)

DIVISIONS & GROUPS Division/Group columns can be used for any type of incident. From a single family dwelling, to a high rise incident, brush fire, or Metro Rail. There are a total of 6 Division/Group columns. (SPAN OF CONTROL) Label as needed. Ie: Div A, B, C, D and Roof or, Fire Suppression, Extrication, and Medical… If a unit gets reassigned, cross it out and write it in the new assignment.

DIVISIONS & GROUPS When tracking your resources, you have the option of leaving one or two spaces blank when initially designating your Division or Group Supervisors. When designating the Supervisors, simply circle them to denote who is in charge. “A” E-1 E-2 E-3 12 E-1 “B” 13 T-1 E-4 E-5 T-1

STAGING The Staging Column is used only for units on scene without an assignment. Once the unit has an assignment draw a line through it. When a unit becomes available, put them back into staging or start a rehab column.

SAFETY OFFICER A Red box has been added for the Safety Officer. We no longer use one person for Safety/Recon.

MEDICAL UNIT Medical Unit Vs. Medical Group MAY be used in conjunction with rehab. Typically utilized for longer duration incidents.

R.I.C./R.I.G. Rapid Intervention company Rapid intervention group 17 E-3 BC-1

Resources All units assigned to incident go in this column. (eventually) This should reflect what the MDC shows. Normally done by Div SA. Low Priority as it is the same information that is on the MDC. Can be useful for reconciling companies on scene. E-1XSEARCH GROUP T-1 XROOF DIVISION R-1MEDICAL GROUP X
