The Danger of Unbelief Mark 8:11-21

The Danger of Unbelief 1. The desire for a sign Rather than believing what Jesus declared by faith, they demand more signs. As if more signs would change their heard hearts

The Danger of Unbelief The Problem: It’s not that there wasn’t enough signs. It was unbelief in what was declared by Jesus. Matthew 12:39 states “only an evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign”

The Danger of Unbelief Adulterous means they give lip service to believing God but in reality reject by their lives what He says

The Danger of Unbelief 2. Unbelief is Subtle The warning: What the Pharisees and Herod bring is easily missed. It is like Leaven - Yeast A little bit goes a long way

The Danger of Unbelief What’s the big deal? Hebrews 3:12, 13 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

The Danger of Unbelief 3. Evidence of Unbelief Do Christians actually struggle with this? The Disciples did. What were they concerned about? Not having food

The Danger of Unbelief How is this evidence of Unbelief? Who are they with? Jesus What did He just do? Fed 4000 Earlier 5000

The Danger of Unbelief Jesus warning He who has eyes let him see. A play off what will happen immediately after this story He who has ears let him hear. A play off what has already happened to the deaf man.

The Danger of Unbelief Verse 19, 20 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.”
