Presentation transcript:

Work Items for NGN Release 2 Jun Kyun Choi

Contents  Customer Manageable NGN Services  Digital Multimedia Broadcast (DMB) and IP TV Services  Home and Ubiquitous Network Applications over NGN  Delivery time guarantee service for emergency  Harmony between E.164 Number and IPv6 Address

Customer Manageable NGN Services - 1  Backgrounds Explore the IT-based New Business Markets using network resources and capabilities toward personalized and ubiquitous worlds Many virtual network operator, Virtual service providers/agent Application provider/broker, Contents provider/agent  Approaches Identify the relevant network capabilities to be open Standardize the Interface to open network resources and capabilities (i.e., Open API, Agent/Broker, VPN, etc.) Develop the specific scenarios and protocols (not exhausted)

Customer Manageable NGN Services - 2  Consideration Issues The existing NGN control/management concepts are manageable from users ? IMS control over GGSN/SGSN IMS-based Softswitch over IP Transport RACS over IP Access and Transport Where are the middleware functions to be open to User ? Common naming/addressing/identification and directory Common security, and charging/billing structure Common profiles on services, applications, and subscriber The Open APIs are really open ?

Digital Multimedia Broadcast (DMB) and IP TV Services  Backgrounds DMB is one of key driver of NGN as well as VoIP NGN converge with Digital Broadcast and TV The existing NGN Control Architecture including IMS is not enough  Study Issues Functional Locations of network elements for DMB and IP TV Network elements including MCU for access, process, storage, security, and subscriber management, etc. especially using FTTH/PON, Wireless LAN/MAN, Terrestrial broadcast antenna, and Satellite, etc. Service requirements and scenario Network architecture and the detailed protocol procedures

Example Network Architecture of DMB and IP-TV services using MPLS

Home and Ubiquitous Network Applications over NGN  Backgrounds Digital Home and Ubiquitous Sensor Applications will be a emerging market No considerations on the current NGN network architecture including control and management  Study Issues Identifications of Home Equipments and Ubiquitous RFID Boundary and Relationship between Home Equipments including Home gateway and network elements How to control Home and Ubiquitous equipments via NGN control and management platform

Delivery Time Guarantee Service For Emergency  Backgrounds Short data or SMS services for emergency situation Migrate the Emergency service within NGN domain How to implement some parts of Y.1271 within the NGN scope  Discussion Issues Preemptive Priority are needed on DiffServ-based Delivery Session-based Delivery  The existing session-based NGN could not support these applications because of long session establishment time Service Architecture and QoS Provisionings Service requirements for QoS, security, and location confidentiality, etc. Scenarios for protection and redundancy

Harmony between E.164 and IPv6 Address  Backgrounds National administrative boundary on IPv6 address structure Easy binding between the Existing PSTN/Cellular number and IPv6 address Set up the naming/numbering/addressing plan at the NGN Infrastructure  Approaches Integration of Telco-based services and IP-based applications within the NGN worlds NGN addressing structure provide Easy Binding of E.164 number and the IPv6 address

Proposal to get a Harmony between E.164 Number and IPv6 Address site topology (16 bits) interface identifier (64 bits) public topology (45 bits) interface IDsubnetNLA*TLA 001 SubaddressSN NDC CC AFI 1 to 3 digits Max (15-n) digits 15 digits (8 octets) 1 octets 64 bits (8 octets) NGN Numbering Domain NGN Addressing Domain
