Method 2: if you need to borrow Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions. Then add/subtract the fractions.

Which to use??? Method 1 (using as mixed #)Method 2 (converting to improper fraction) Uses smaller numbersCreates larger numbers Doesn’t work easily if you need to rename in subtraction. Works the same for every type of problem. Doesn’t work easily with signed fractions.
