Aim: SWBAT understand how social classes developed in ancient Egypt Focus Questions: What are social classes? How did social classes develop?

Do Now Why do some people seem to have more “stuff” than others?

What are social classes? Social classes are divisions in society based on wealth, power and/or family ancestry.

Why did they develop? Social classes probably developed soon after humans learned to farm. As certain people gained more resources and developed specialized skills (warfare, trade, crafts, etc.), they would have more influence on a community over others that did not have such resources or skills. As resources/skills passed from generation to generation, social classes formed.
