2012 United Way Campaign

We all win when… …a child succeeds in school. …a neighborhood turns around. …families have good health. …workers have solid jobs. Your United Way gift helps break down barriers and create opportunities for a better life for all!

Building Blocks to a Quality Life

Barriers: 1.Many children do not enter kindergarten ready to learn. 2.Many children do not move successfully from kindergarten through high school graduation. 3.Many high school graduates do not further their education in vocational training, technical education or college. Children, youth and adults have access to quality education that supports academic and social success.

Sample Areas to Improve Increase access to quality, affordable early care and education for children birth through kindergarten. Provide for character and leadership development among all children and youth. Increase support of programs designed to guide youth from high school to higher education.

Last year, 11,938 individuals invested to keep kids in school. Supporting 20 afterschool programs Serving 12,465 children 57% achieved a grade-letter improvement in at least 1 academic subject. United Way Results

Barriers: 1.The safety net of emergency services available in our community is difficult to navigate and has limited capacity. 2.Many people do not have living wage jobs. 3.Families and adults often do not manage their resources in a manner that supports financial stability. Individuals and families in our community are able to meet basic needs and build economic self-sufficiency.

Sample Areas to Improve Increase availability of case management to navigate community resources and prevent future crises. Improve technical and soft job skills among unemployed/underemployed. Increase basic financial literacy among members of our community.

Last year, 10,293 individuals moved families toward financial stability. Supporting 33 programs that help individuals and families move toward self-sufficiency by : Increasing education Obtaining a GED Enhancing job skills United Way Results

Barriers: 1.Many people in our community do not live in safe environments. 2.Many people in our community lack access to quality primary care and behavioral health. 3.Our community has limited infrastructure and cultural support for preventative health and wellness. Sample Areas to Improve Strengthen community efforts to prevent violence and abuse. Increase access to quality primary, behavioral, and dental healthcare. Increase awareness of and opportunities for wellness, prevention and early detection.
