A Comparison of the Cell Phone Driver and the Drunk Driver David L. Strayer, Frank A. Drews, and Dennis J. Crouch, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah HUMAN FACTORS 學生 : 莊靖玟

Methods - Participants 40 licensed car drivers (25 men,15 women). Their average age was 25 years (age from 22 to 34 years. All had normal or corrected-to-normal vision. Average 8 years of driving experience.

Methods - Participants Of the 40 participants, 78% owned a cell phone, and 87% of the cell phone owners reported that they have used a cell phone while driving. Participants were social drinkers, consuming between three and five alcoholic drinks per week.

Methods - Stimuli and Apparatus PatrolSim high-fidelity driving simulator. -five networked microprocessors. -three high-resolution displays providing a 180° field of view. Ford Crown Victoria® sedan. -the dashboard instrumentation. -steering wheel. -gas pedal. -brake pedal.

Methods - Stimuli and Apparatus Cellular service was provided by Sprint PCS. The cell phone was manufactured by LG Electronics Inc. (Model TP1100). For hands-free conditions, a Plantronics M135 headset (with earpiece and boom microphone) was attached to the cell phone. Blood alcohol concentration levels were measured using an Intoxilyzer 5000, manufactured by CMI Inc.

Methods - Procedure The experiment used a within-subjects design and was conducted in three sessions on different days. -The driving simulator session. -The alcohol session. -The cell phone session.
