Mathematically represent a real- world problem. Use technology to represent a math problem. Review visual representations of math problems done by peers Create a power point presentation to represent a real-world word problem which requires multiplying of 2 binomials to solve Represent a real-world situation with mathematics. Use technology to present a solution to a math problem. Find the product of 2 binomials using FOIL, distributive property, and table(box) method. Multiply 2 binomials using FOIL, distributive property, and box methods. Justify reasoning for stating which method is more efficient. Review and discuss methods for multiplying two binomials. Identify and understand 3 methods for multiplying 2 binomials Accurately explain and use each method for finding the product of 2 binomials. A-APR.A.1: Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials Teacher: Phyllis Young MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.. Multiplying Binomials – Lesson Read problems 1, 2 and 3 from Section 8-3 in your Student Companion workbook. Review notes on multiplying monomials. 2. Explain the 3 methods for multiplying a binomial times a binomial. 3. Explain what the standard form of a polynomial is. 4. Create a Microsoft Word document that contains the following: * One paragraph to introduce your topic and explain what the standard form of a polynomial is. * One paragraph to explain how to use the distributive property to find the product of 2 binomials. * One paragraph to explain how to use the table(box) method. * One paragraph to explain how to use FOIL to multiply 2 binomials. 5. Show one example of multiplying 2 binomials using either FOIL or the distributive property. 6. Save your document file as: firstname.lastname.doc and upload it into Blackboard as an assignment. Review and discuss methods for multiplying two binomials. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): * Identify and understand 3 methods for multiplying 2 binomials. * Accurately explain and use each method for finding the product of 2 binomials. S SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement

Multiplying Binomials – Lesson Get in groups of You will need a QR code Treasure Hunt Answer Sheet and an iPad. 3. Find the 9 QR codes randomly placed around the classroom and scan each one as you come to it. There is also one Bonus problem you should find as you scan the QR codes. 4.On your Treasure Hunt Answer Sheet record each problem you see on the screen as you scan it. 5.Work together with your group members to multiply the binomials, showing each step on your Answer Sheet. Use each of the 3 methods at least once. Box your answers. 6. Turn in your Treasure Hunt Answer Sheet. Be sure your name is on it. It will be graded for accuracy, for following directions, and for showing the steps you used to multiply each binomial problem. 7. On the Discussion Board on Blackboard, comment as to which of the 3 methods for solving you think is most efficient. Explain why. Find the product of 2 binomials using FOIL, distributive property, and table(box) method. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): * Multiply 2 binomials using FOIL, distributive property, and box methods. * Justify reasoning for stating which method is more efficient. A AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement.

Multiplying Binomials – Lesson Get in groups of 3. A word problem will be randomly assigned to your group. 2. Solve the word problem by writing an expression to show the product of 2 binomials. Simplify the expression and put it in standard form. 3.Create a power point presentation with your group to show your problems and solutions. * On the first slide show the problem written out in words. * On the second slide show the problem as a product of 2 binomials. * On the third slide show the steps to do the multiplication. * On the fourth slide show the solution as a simplified expression with the appropriate units of measure. * On the last slide list the first name of the each person in the group. 4. Upload your presentation to Blackboard. Create a power point presentation to represent a real-world word problem which requires multiplying of 2 binomials to solve. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): * Represent a real-world situation with mathematics. * Use technology to present a solution to a math problem. M MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.

Multiplying Binomials – Lesson Create a word problem that models the multiplication of 2 binomials. Review problems from Activity 3 as examples, but do not use those. 2. Solve your problem and express the solution as a polynomial. 3. Use the iPad and the Tellagami app to create an animation (visual representation) of your word problem and solution after reading tutorial. 4. Choose a character, an emotion, and a background for your animation. Be sure it is school appropriate. 5. Click on “record” after you have planned out how you will present your word problem. When you have finished, click on the “preview” button to see how your gami will look and sound. If you are satisfied with it, click “share”, and then “save” to save your video on the camera roll. 6. Open the Safari app on the iPad. Go to then Blackboard and submit your video on the Discussion board. 7. View the uploaded animations from the other groups and comment on at least two of them. Include comments to evaluate the videos. Create an animation representing a word problem using the Tellagami app, then share in a Blackboard forum to be evaluated by peers. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): Mathematically represent a real-world problem. Use technology to represent a math problem. Review visual representations of math problems done by peers. R REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable.
