I Can…. Classify Types of Angles

Classifying Angles Essential Understanding: An angle is a figure formed by two rays that share an end point, known as a vertex. Angles are classified by their measurement. They are measured by using a tool called a protractor, and are described using degrees. Acute Angles, are angles that measure more than 0 o but less than 90 o Examples: Right Angles, are angles that measure exactly 90 o. This is the most common type of angle. You can think of a right angle as ¼ of a circle (360 o divided by 4 = 90 o ). Examples: Obtuse Angles, are angles that measure more than 90 o but less than 180 o Examples: Straight Angles, are angles that form a straight line and measure exactly 180 o Examples:

I Can…. Recognize Relationships among angles

Angle Relationships Essential Understanding: Angles share many relationships. They can be congruent, vertical, supplementary, complimentary, or adjacent. Congruent angles, are angles that have the same measure. Examples: Vertical angles, are angles that are formed by two intersecting lines. Vertical angles are congruent. Examples: Supplementary angles, are angles who’s measures add up to 180 o Examples: Complimentary angles, are angles who’s measures add up to 90 o Examples: Adjacent angles, are angles that share a vertex and a common side. I Can…. Classify Triangles

Classifying Triangles Essential Understanding: Triangles are classified by the measure of their angles and the measure of their sides. The three angles of a triangle always add up to 180 o. Acute Triangles, are triangles that have three acute angle. Examples: Obtuse Triangles, are triangles that have one obtuse angle. Examples: Right Triangles, are triangles that have one right angle. Examples: Scalene Triangles, are triangles that have no congruent sides or angles. Examples: Isosceles Triangles, are triangles with at least two congruent sides and two congruent angles. Examples: Equilateral Triangles, are triangles with three congruent sides and three congruent angles. Examples: More Examples:

I Can…. Calculate missing angles

Calculating Missing Angles Essential Understanding: Triangles are made up of three angles and three lines. The sum of all three angles is always 180 o. It is simple to find the measure of an unknown angle, when two angles are given. Simply subtract the sum of the two know angles from 180 o. Examples: To find the measure of an unknown angle when the other angles are not given can be a bit trickier. To do this you must rely on your knowledge of angle relationships and their classifications (i.e. vertical angles, complementary angles, supplementary angles, scalene triangle, isosceles triangles, and equilateral triangles.) Examples:
