(1) Write a draft of a short story (use your Grammar for Writing p to help you brainstorming). The draft should be about words Due Today, 11/17. (completion 5 points) (2) If you don’t think you have a good topic, you can try these: a. Rewrite the story of The Pearl. (Your own version) b. Write a “sequel” to The Pearl describing what happened after they threw away the pearl. WRITING A SHORT STORY

(3) You will polish your story and turn in your story on 11/25, next Tuesday. The story should be 600 words at least (about 2.5 pages). You can write longer, but please don’t be longer than 1500 words. (15 points) Plot development & creativity (8 points) Literary devices (at least 5): similes, metaphors, symbolism, personification, or foreshadowing. (4 points) Conventions (3 points) (4) Bonus point: If you use a “central symbol” in your short story and make it a theme throughout, you can get an extra point. (remember, a symbol, not a character or an event) WRITING A SHORT STORY

(5) Any adaptation of your short story would be counted as bonus point(s). * A short film * An illustrated booklet * A slideshow * A radio play …… The most you will get is 5 points. They can be turned in later. (no later than 12/12) WRITING A SHORT STORY
