 LEAs must use the Iowa Eligibility Application sent to them  CONTENT changes to the paper and/or web based application must receive prior approval from the Bureau.  Send changes and supporting documents to Diana Weber. or FYI- Adding your school name does not require Bureau approval

 If a significant number of children are non- English speaking, translated applications and application material must be made available  Each District must find language translators to assist families with reading difficulties

 PARENT LETTERS to all households  LEA must provide paper letter to all households ◦ No earlier than 4 weeks before school starts ◦ May send home in first few days of new school year ◦ No materials may be distributed prior to July 1 st each year ◦ Online methods of distribution must ensure that all households have receive this information- online or paper ◦ EXAMPLE- NEXT SLIDE  APPLICATIONS ◦ Paper applications must be sent with the letter ◦ Web based applications are allowed; must request and change parent letter to notify households ◦ Web based applications MUST have the ability to be electronically signed (read Appendix E in the Guidance Manual) or be printed out hard copy, signed in ink and returned to the school as hard copy. ◦ Must send the application, parent letter and household instructions for completing the application to each household not included in the first direct certification download ◦ Must ensure a secure website for online application process

 USDA requires the use of household applications—one application form with all children’s names on it. ◦ Cannot require separate applications by school ◦ Cannot require separate applications for children categorically eligible and others applying based on income  One application per household

 LEAs may accept applications electronically and may provide for electronic signatures.  LEAs may also scan paper applications submitted.  NOTE: all software used must meet all USDA requirements such as recognizing and accepting less than whole dollar amounts.  NOTE: LEAs are responsible for any errors that may result from using any electronic methods.  Need to access and retrieve all electronic information upon request.

 Citizenship is not required to participate in Child Nutrition Programs
