Project #2 By Sophia Diamonds

For this project, I chose a pattern called Mc Call’s M7100. I thought it would be an easy hoodie/jacket type thing I could manage, but I should’ve read more carefully because it was so hard! In the end it turned out fine which was relief :O As for supplies, I bought a zipper, thread, interfacing, and I chose super soft fleece fabric, and ribbing pieces.

So first I cut up the pattern, filled in the notches. Next, I ironed the interfacing to the fabric pieces together The first step was making the pockets The pattern said to ease stitch between the notches on the side edge of the front piece. I folded and sewed the ends of the welt pieces. I pinned and sewed the welt to the front piece and added the pockets. I sewed one pocket side to the side front piece and connected it with the original front piece. And then I sewed everything and did the same procedure to the other side.

I sewed the back sides to the front sides together. Next, the pattern said to stitch in the darts. I’ve never sewed darts so I googled how to do it. The pattern said after sewing the darts, to slash the fold of the dart and trim it and press it flat. So I did my best for that..

Finished dart

After that, I sewed the sleeves and pinned it to the armhole. I was supposed to add the ribbing to the sleeve but I forgot to.. And I changed my mind in the end so I didn’t.. Next I sewed the collar and the instructions were so confusing.. The first time I sewed it on the wrong side, second time I sewed it upside down, third time I sewed it another way that wasn’t right. I finally got the collar right on my 4 th try.

Pinning the sleeves

For the rest of this, my camera died so I wasn’t able to take any more pictures. After sewing the collar, I pinned and sewed the front band to the lower edge of the jacket on both sides. The next step was surprisingly the easiest. It said to pin the zipper to the front opening edges. I was scared of messing up, so I used double sided tape instead. The zipper turned out ok.

The next two steps were the worst and most confusing ones. The pattern was so hard to understand, so I ended up just doing what I thought was maybe right. I added the front facing to the jacket, and I don’t actually know what I did.. but I tried to make it work. I also added the bottom lower band to the jacket. I was just as confused on this step but I think it turned out ok. At the very end, I topstitched the front opening edges. The jacket turned out satisfactory, and it was super challenging but somehow magically I did it!
