Presentation transcript:

Frank Lloyd Wright By Grace and Leiloa

Style Style: Prairie style Founded: 1893 Oak park, Chicago Prairie houses were characterized by low, horizontal lines purposefully put in place in order to blend with the flat landscape surrounding. Wright’s aim was to design and create an entire environment not just a house. Huge emphasis in Prairie style is placed on broad open spaces instead of the usual strictly defined rooms. Elimination of the separation between interior space and the surrounding landscape is also a key characteristic of prairie style.

Meaning During the first decade of the 20 th century, Frank Lloyd Wright founded a new perspective to domestic architecture called the Prairie style. Wanting to break free from the shackles of European, Gothic and French architectural styles, Wright created a new style which he saw as relevant and suited to a modern American way of living. Frank Lloyd Wright focused on emphasizing this particular style to compliment the landscape, not hurt it. He aimed to make the landscape more beautiful then it was before the building was built. The first house which posses all the elements of prairie style is Wright’s creation the Robie house, built in chicago 1909.
