TEXAS GEOGRAPHY REVIEW!
Presentation transcript:

 What are some examples of physical features in Texas? (Name them if you can)

 You will now take some time to locate and label the streets of Austin.  Once you have all the street names go back to your seat.  Then label the rivers of Texas using the Austin street names.

East Ave. West Ave. Sabine St. Red River St. Neches St. Trinity St. San Jacinto St. Brazos St. Colorado St. Lavaca St. Guadalupe St. San Antonio St. Nueces St. Congress Ave. Rio Grande St. Streets of Downtown Austin The streets that run north/south in downtown Austin are named after rivers of Texas. The “river streets” are not only named after rivers of Texas, they are in mostly the same order as the actual rivers of Texas.

Major Rivers of Texas Sabine River Red River Neches River Rio Grande Trinity River San Jacinto River Brazos River Colorado River Lavaca River Guadalupe River San Antonio River Nueces River The San Jacinto Battle Caused Lots of Grief for Santa Anna Pecos River Canadian River

How am I EVER going to remember all those rivers for the quiz? Label the border rivers FIRST (they should be the easiest!) Label the “Two N” rivers NEXT… Neches R. and Nueces R. (remember- they are alphabetical from east to west) Learn this saying to remember the rest of the rivers. If you use the first letter of each of these words, they should help you remember the rivers from east to west The San Jacinto Battle Caused Lots of Grief for Santa Anna Label the two rivers in north Texas (Canadian) and west Texas (Pecos)

 Label each of the study sticks after the 14 rivers  Use these sticks and your green map of Texas to study with over the next week **We will have a quiz on Texas physical geography next week!**

Label the important Texas cities on your map Austin El Paso San Antonio Dallas Fort Worth Brownsville Laredo Houston Galveston Amarillo Corpus Christi Lubbock

Study Map After labeling the cities, shade in the four regions on the map using colored pencils (we will talk about these later) Cut out your study map Keep track of this map we will use it again Use this map and your study sticks to help you study Texas physical/political geography- if you get done early, start using the map and the sticks
