How to Choose Courses… Career goals Personal interest Douglas College program University transferable
Career Goals… Some careers require specific courses, or degrees to be qualified for employment, some are simply looking for a general credential Good places to find out job requirements and Career counselling is also available at Douglas College
Personal Interest… Most programs have elective or breadth requirements for completion of a credential. These courses should be selected based on personal interest, but chosen from a list determined by the University or specific program. Course listing is in the College Calendar

University Transferable… In you plan to transfer to University to continue your education (usually from a Diploma/Associates Degree Bachelors Degree) then you need to be selecting the appropriate courses You should be selecting your courses as if you were currently at the University getting ready for your first semester
Using the University Calendar You should be using the University’s calendar that you plan on transferring to, and looking for your Major program, Lower Division requirements = first and second year required courses. SFU - UBC -
So, if you are planning to complete an English Major at SFU within a Bachelors of Arts, the required courses needed in the first and second years of study are found online. How do we find elective courses that are transferable into your intended program? How do we find the equivalent courses at the college?

General Information GPA Transfer to University
GPA Calculating your GPA A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D/P=1.0, F/UN=0 For (+) or (-) add or subtract.33 Douglas GPA Credits x Grade (numeric value) = Points 3 x B (3.0) = x C- (1.67) = x C+ (2.33) = Total Credits = 11 Total Points = Divide total points by total credits for GPA 24.34/11 = 2.21 GPA
University GPA Universities may calculate your GPA differently from Douglas SFU – all credits counted, but only highest grade of repeated courses counted UBC – most recent 30 credits, including all repeats Universities will only use transferable courses for Admission GPA calculations Use the online GPA calculator available on the Academic Advising webpage
Transfer to University All University require specific requirements to transfer. These can be determined by the University calendar SFU – requires min 24 credits (30 for Busn) and W and Q requirements + appropriate GPA UBC – requires min 24 credits including 6 credits of ENGL Dates and deadlines – all Universities will have their own deadlines for application to their programs
