Department of the Navy’s (DoN’s) Historically Black Colleges and Universities/ Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) Cybersecurity/ Information Assurance (CS/IA) Program (Program Overview)

Program Description: What Is The Navy’s HBCU – Cyber Security/ Information Assurance (CS/IA) Program? DoN’s Cyber Security/ Information Assurance (CS/IA) Program is in response to the President’s National Security Strategy (February 2015) to secure our nation’s cyberspace while providing opportunity, diversity, inclusion, and real world exposure The CS/IA Program is the DoN’s premier cyber outreach effort to the very best undergraduate and graduate computer science engineering students attending the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities/ Minority Institutions. We invite students to participate in a 6 – 7 month program where they work together and in teams, directly with SPAWAR technical professionals on mission-critical cyber-related initiatives The (CS/IA) Program is a two phased program consisting of Phase 1 and Phase II Phase 1: Occurs January – April Phase 2: Occurs May – August Program Overview

Phase I Phase I of the program occurs onsite at a designated Historically Black College and University/ Minority Institution (HBCU/ MI) During Phase I of the program (January – April) students will be in attendance at their respective HBCU/ MI and will not receive a financial stipend. While in attendance at their respective HBCU/ MI, two to five students will be provided with a mentored research experience through participation in a SSC Pacific Integrated C2I Engineering Division Information Assurance project for them to evaluate, analyze and complete under the supervision and guidance of University faculty and SSC Pacific Integrated C2I Engineering Division scientist and engineers During Phase I, Department of Navy personnel will provide on-site mentorship at the designated HBCU/ MI in addition to outreach via virtual telecommunications. Upon completion of Phase I, participating students will compete for Phase II internships via a down-select process, selected students/ candidates will then transition to Phase II Roadmap - Phase 1 and II

Phase II Phase II of the program occurs from May 2016 to August 2016 at SSC Pacific Integrated C2I Engineering Division located in Philadelphia, PA During Phase II of the program, selected students/ candidates will transition to interns/ co- op’s and will receive a financial stipend: As participating students transition to interns/ co-op’s they will be directly involved in cybersecurity and information assurance research projects that enable the cyber mission force through current analysis methodologies, training, and research and development of new IA tools Interns/ co-op’s will be involved in IA projects related to protecting and defending the nation's information systems networks and outmaneuvering cyber adversaries Upon completion of Phase II, the interns/ co-op’s will provide an abstract of the work that they have accomplished to include white papers, test reports, prototypes, quad charts, poster sessions, and technical briefs. This data will be reviewed and archived internally at SSC Pacific Integrated C2I Engineering Division as well as at Office of Naval Research Roadmap - Phase 1 and II

The University of the District of Columbia invite SSC PAC Integrated C2I Engineering Division personnel To lead a series of workshops on Cybersecurity/ Information Assurance
