Matt 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
The purpose of Baptism is to proclaim that you are a believer. If you are proclaiming, then you already are. If this is a requirement, then we are putting the cart before the horse. There are biblical examples of people not baptized who will be in heaven. Also, it is possible that we go through the motions of Baptism without actually being authentic or believing.
Are you sure you prayed correctly? Are you sure you really meant it? What happens when you cannot remember clearly how you felt or were sincere enough? What happens when you no longer “feel” the same feeling that you had that day?
We use the word hope differently than the Bible does. We say hope to describe desire, not necessarily assurance. When the Bible talks about the “hope that lies within us”, it does not mean that it is a fairy tale desire.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
If we have done nothing to earn it, then we can do nothing to lose it. If God is in charge of salvation and security, is he really doing a good job if it can be lost?
What does eternal security have to do with evangelism?
That being said: Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Ask someone (preferably someone older and wiser) how they know they are born again believers. Be prepared to respond if/when someone asks you.
