Towers Getting Ready for the Build!

Terms to know  Rough Sketch  Thumb Nail Sketch  Doodle Sketch  Blue Prints/ Master Plan

Rough, Thumbnail and Doodle Sketches have the same meaning. Small quick sketches that shows a shape and some details about the object. Drawings are about 1 to 3 inches.

They may look like the following:

Blue Prints / Master Plan: Are drawings that show true shape, size and details about the object.

Your Tower project will have these dimensions for the side view. Hint: Half of top and bottom measurements are 3” = 1-1/2” 2” = 1” 2-3/4” = 1-3/8” 1-3/4” = 7/8”

Your Tower project will have these dimensions for the side view. Your tower must have a minimum of 3 levels.

Your Tower project will have these dimensions for the bottom and top view. Hint: Looking up from the bottom or down from the top

Wood Joints to use:

Gusset Plate Defined:  Is some type of plate used to strengthen a joist or joint by stiffening its framework.  Material used can be: Plate of sheet metal, wood, glass or plastic.

Gusset Plate Examples

Superstructure Defined:  A super structure is any part of the building, bridge or tower that is above ground level.

Superstructure Examples

Sub-Structure Defined:  Any part of the structure which is below ground level or slightly above ground level that helps support the superstructure.

Sub-Structure Examples

Cutting Techniques to use:

Draw 6 Rough Sketches  On the handout provided  Draw 6 different side views you can build.  Use the KISS method  Keep  It  Super  Simple

Use the examples shown to help you with this activity. Try to come up with different pattern ideas. Remember to use the K.I.S.S. method.

End of Tower Presentation Good luck on your tower build.
