Who is a manager?  A manager is someone who is in charger of company or an organization  He is the leader and he takes decision  Takes control over different department of the company

Planning and Organizing Setting goals and mapping strategies to achieve them Give employees guide line to work on Planning Assigning tasks to each worker Granting authority Organizing

Staffing and Leading Recruiting new employees Providing training to employees Staffing Assist and motivate employees Maintain effective communication Leading

Controlling Check if goals were achieved Check against rubric of the company Measure performance Controlling

Management Styles  An effective manager has three principle management styles:  Directing  Delegating  Discussing

Directing  Management style whereby the manager gives detailed instructions to the employees face to face Strengths Encourage learning Promote active listening skills Promote communication in the company It encourages promotion and recognition Weaknesses Language barrier Communication breakdowns

Directing style-Scenario  Assume an employee is assigned to make a research to find the number of NGOs in Rwanda. If an employee addresses the issue to the manager during coaching session that he is not getting transportation facilities, the manager intervene to analyze the current problem and decide what to be done from the available alternative. An employee can be recognized for his work.

Delegating  Management style whereby the manager assigns tasks individually or in a group to employees Strengths Encourage independent learning Encourages teamwork spirit Helps to measure performance Weakness Difficult to manage all the employees Inability to assign all the employees equal works

Delegating Style  Manager assign tasks to four people who works in ZBY Ltd company to make sure every person is being as productive as it is required. One is assigned to go to search customers, the next to deliver products, other one to pack the products and the remaining one to report. The manager will be working hand in hand with each one through coaching to insure the best performance of each.

Discussing Style  Management which requires interaction between employee and manager by asking questions. Strengths It promote critical thinking Promote creativity weaknesses They can take advantage of manager’s weakness

Discussing Style  The manager in the organization set up a meeting with employees to discuss about the new project introduced in the company recently. Manager is asking questions which help the employees to reflect on the performance. One employee is so effective and is giving thoughtful ideas which can help take new helpful decision for the company to go ahead.
