Our Mission Statement: ‘A lasting difference for heritage and people’ We will achieve this through our projects delivering a broad range of ‘Outcomes’. These come under 3 headings: What difference will your project make for heritage? What difference will your project make for people? What difference will your project make for communities?

What difference will your project make for heritage? With HLF investment, heritage will be: Better managed In better condition Better interpreted and explained Identified and/or recorded

This could include: Projects which conserve a building or object Projects which record people’s memories A project which is around passing on traditions A project which tells the story of your heritage through interpretation

With HLF investment, people will have: Learnt about heritage* Developed skills Changed their attitudes and/or behaviour Had an enjoyable experience Volunteered time *weighted outcome What difference will your project make for people?

This could include: Projects which encourage people to be trained in new skills Projects which have created volunteering opportunities Projects which set up a new Friends group Projects which provide information to help people learn about the heritage Projects which give people an enjoyable experience

With HLF investment: Environmental impacts will be reduced More people and a wider range of people will have engaged with heritage Organisations will be more resilient Local economies will be boosted Local areas/communities will be a better place to live, work or visit What difference will your project make for communities?

Our Heritage Grants of £10,000 to £100,000 No application deadline Decision in 8 weeks One short application Applications meet 2 outcomes (one for heritage and one for people)

 Grants of £10,000 to £50,000, for up to 2 years  Delivered through partnerships of heritage and youth organisations  Young people should learn about heritage and gain new skills or opportunituies  Young people should lead activities and share their learning with others  Same short process as Our Heritage Young Roots Projects delivered by 11–25 year olds

What can weaken an application? Try to avoid these common trip ups: Lack of heritage focus - activities which are too arts focused Heritage topic too broad Insufficient information in the application Poor evidence of need, and a lack of supporting letters Learning not addressed or no costs for learning activities Project audience too narrowly focused Project appears unmanageable Budget does not represent good value for money No pre-application advice
