A costume is any outfit worn by an actor in a production, including accessories.

Costumes Help audience know a character. They show age, personality, tastes, social standing, and even occupation of a character. Help establish time and place Help Actors feel and move as the character and not themselves.

Costume Designer Reads the play Confers with the director Researches the period of the play Designs the costumes for the entire play, coordinating them to harmonize with each other and the scenic design.

Costumes can be acquired by: Visiting thrift stores Borrowing from other theatres/people Creating/building from fabric

What else does the costume crew do? During the rehearsals and performances costumers hang costumes, clean them, check them and make repairs if needed. Assist with quick changes. Make emergency repairs. When the show is over, check in costumes from actors, clean and return or store costumes.
