Definitions Emerging Research Institutions – Those schools that have some external funding (less than $30m) and are currently putting, or have in place, an organizational structure in place to grow this amount. Strategic Plan, Sponsored Programs Office, Associate Provost for Research, etc. Research Agenda – The process of developing a system to develop proposals and search for external funding opportunities.

Step One: Determine Your Needs What types of projects need funding? Probably, all of them! Would they be of interest to external sponsors? Who will be involved? Faculty, staff, students, community members How much time? What will cost? What is my level of internal support?

Individual institutions are eligible for funding to: support student, faculty, and staff work to implement, research, and evaluate sustainable practices; establish sustainability literacy as a requirement for undergraduate and graduate degree programs; and integrate sustainability curriculum in all programs of instruction, particularly in business, architecture, technology, manufacturing, engineering, and science programs.

Associations and consortia are eligible for funding to: conduct faculty, staff and/or administrator trainings; compile, evaluate and disseminate best practices, case studies, and standards; engage external stakeholders such as business, alumni, and accrediting agencies, create analytical tools to assess and measure institutional progress; and develop educational benchmarks.
