COMMUNITY EVENT Terri Smith EDU620 Instructor Dr. Gray April 11, 2016

STATION 1: UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING (UDL) UDL is an education framework and set of principles that maximizes learning opportunities for all learners. Each principle is aimed at helping educators improve how information is presented to engage students.

EDUCATORS INCORPORATE MUSIC, VIDEO, CLAY MODELING, TRIPS OUTDOORS OR TOSSING A BALL AROUND CLASS ALONGSIDE THE APPS AND SOFTWARE THEY MIGHT TYPICALLY USE. THE INTENTION IS TO STIMULATE EVERY TYPE OF LEARNER, REGARDLESS OF THE INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT THEY MIGHT REQUIRE (NOONOO, 2014).

UDL PROMOTES A STRONG, YET FLEXIBLE, FOUNDATION TO MEET A BROADER RANGE OF DIVERSE ABILITIES, DISABILITIES, ETHNICITIES, LANGUAGE SKILLS AND LEARNING STYLES (W.V. UNIVERSITY, 2016).

STATION 2: TECHNOLOGY AND UDL FOR ALL LEARNERS

MISSION STATEMENT It is our mission to develop young adults who are able to contribute to their communities and society by instilling in them the value of integrity, responsibility, and a life-long love of learning. We believe that technology positively impacts student achievement as it changes the teaching and learning environment. We expect the highest performance as we empower students to be successful in the 21st century.

GOALS AND COURSE OFFERINGS Develop effective verbal, nonverbal, written, technological, and media communication skills to enhance 21st century learning. Develop career ready skills that prepare you for the future. Course offerings include agriculture, architecture, culinary arts, forestry, engineering, personal training, robotics, and graphics and design.

STATION 3: 21 ST CENTURY SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPLOYABILITY Students will learn many skills in a robotics class such as career skills. Students are learning how to build and operate a robot which are skills that they could use for a career. Another skill that they are gaining is critical thinking skills. By learning quadratic functions to demonstrate what an equation means in a real life situation, students are building their critical thinking skills. Students are also gaining technology skills by building robots. Lastly, students are mastering mathematics.
