The Beauty in Geogrophy THE BEST OF THE WORLD

The Newest Island This little island is a volcanic island that is located in the Philippine sea, it is officially called Nijman Island. It was formed by a volcano eruption that happened in November of the island is 14 acres an continuers to grow as molten rock keeps pushing up from the earths core

The Great Barrier Reef The great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on the planet. It covers the floor of he ocean for a total of 2,300 kilometers. The reef is so large it can be seen from outer space. The reef is home to 600 types of coral,1600 types of fish,133 varieties of sharks, and 30 species of whales. And there are still thousands of other kinds of animals that call the reef home.

Angel Falls Angle falls is widely known as the largest waterfall in the world. It is 807 meters tall. Angle falls was found accidently by aviator jimmy Angels after his plane crashed there. The plane is now in a museum

The Grand Canyon  The Grand Canyon is known world wide for its size, and also for its unique rock colors. The canyon measures 270 miles long and can, at its widest spot be 18 miles across. It also is a mile deed at some spots. The canyon was carved out by the Colorado River over thousands of years, creating the magnificent canyon we see today.

Galapagos Islands  The Galapagos Islands are a series of volcanic islands that lye right on the equator. The islands have an extremely diverse ecosystem with thousands of species. Including the finches that Darwin used during his studies on the island. The island is the home of the last remaining Pinta tortoise on earth. Due to its position west of south America, and right on the equator the islands have a stable climate all year round with twelve hours of light and dark every day.

Mt. Roraima  Mount Roraims is located in Venezuela. It is one of the highest peaks located on the Tepui Plateau. It is known as the oldest geological formation, as it dates back to 2 billion years. Due to its location it rains almost every day. When this happens random waterfalls start to pour the water off of the cliffs, just like in the picture to the left. The ecosystem is pretty unique also, the rare pitcher plant calls this area home, as well as some other flora that cant be found anywhere else in the world.

Tianzi Mountain The Tianzi Mountain is located in Zhangjiajie in the Hunan Province of China. The mountains are considered sacred to the sulamitos who once inhabited the outskirts of the mountains. The name Tianzi translate to “son of Heaven”. All of the stone pillars are made of quarts. They were created millions of years ago when this area was once covered by an ocean. When it receded the rocks that were less stable eroded and over thousands of years the pillars were carved out by water and wind erosion

The Congo River Of all of the spectacular geograpnc land forms in Africa the Congo stands out and is one of the most importat features to the people of Africa. The congo is the second longes river in Africa after the Nile. The river is the worlds deepest river. Some spots can reacha depths of 750 ft. the river is 2,920 miles long and ends at the Atlantic Ocean. The river has a wide varity of fish, rays, and even bull sharks which can live in fresh and salt water. There are records of bull sharks as far as 200 miles inland.

The Great Lakes  The great lakes are five huge fresh water lakes in the north eastern part of the U.S. and south Canada. These five lakes together make up the largest body of fresh water on our planet. Two of the lakes, Erie and on are connected by the famous Niagara Falls.  The five lakes together have enough water to cover all of the United States in one foot of water. Its not all water though, between all of the lakes there are 30,00 islands dotted across all five lakes. Some tiny, but some of them are huge. Like the island Manitoulin which is located in Lake Huron. It is 1,068 square miles of land. It is also the largest island that is in an inland body of water.
