AHFC’s Senior Housing Office ADRCs & Housing ADRC National Meeting, Washington, DC3 Established in AK Statutes in Since inception, responsible for over $200M in senior developments statewide. Provides educational outreach to increase awareness of senior needs. Works with outside agencies in developing safe, secure, accessible and affordable senior housing. Only corporate employee who’s position is specifically enumerated in state statutes. Works with the Alaska Commission on Aging (Alaska’s AAA). Studies the needs of older Alaskans for both independent and assisted living arrangements. AK’s fastest growing population!

Housing Teams Contact individuals responsible for administering special needs & affordable housing programs. (Tax Credits, Consolidated Plans, Etc.) Are there special offices such as the Senior Housing Office? Coordinate with municipal governments who currently assist low to moderate income individuals. Partner with advocacy groups. Coordinating with housing trusts ADRCs & Housing ADRC National Meeting, Washington, DC8

Political Involvement Don’t forget the role of HFAs in providing assistance to low-moderate income and special needs populations. HFAs work with diverse populations in managing grant programs developers often seek. (LIHTC, HOME, and others?) What is the mission of the HFA in your area? (Safe, quality & affordable housing) Board involvement, state, etc.. Global impact of the housing agency in your own area. What are the goals of the agency in meeting its public housing consolidated plan. Give input on scoring mechanisms used to award funding. Include an HFA representative so they equally understand your own goals and missions especially for planning & advocacy Work toward funding for specialized programs, such as accessibility modifications and others.
