A favorite classroom tool, and soon to be yours :)

Token Economies A token economy is an operant learning theory that states that rewards and punishment shape behavior. A token economy rewards behavior that is desired and punishes behavior that is undesirable. A token can be a chip, star, sticker, or points that can be turned in for something else that is motivating to the person earning the token. Once those items are earned, they can either be traded for a prize or privilege or saved.

Token Economies Classroom economies can teach much more than just good behavior! Financial literacy… Nqp_M Nqp_M Token economies work for all children; especially your students on the spectrum. The best token economies have these characteristics…

The tokens are portable and can be in the subject's possession even when he is in a situation far removed from that in which the tokens were earned No maximum exists in the number of tokens a subject may possess Tokens are durable and can be continuously present during the delay The tokens can be made fairly indestructible so they will not deteriorate during the delay The tokens can be made unique and non-duplicable so that the experimenter can be assured that they are received only in the authorized manner. In addition, tokens provide a visible record of improvement. This may facilitate social reinforcement from staff members, as well as self- reinforcement.’

Why use ClassDojo? Your classroom community can be more positive and supportive than ever – with your students and their parents. You can encourage each other in class for skills you believe are important. Parents can see how their child is doing, plus you can share photos, videos, and announcements instantly from class!

Encourage students Every day give ‘Dojo points’ to students for attendance, bringing homework back, getting agendas signed, or skills like helping others, persistence, and teamwork. Students love being recognized for their hard work :)

Parents can see their child’s feedback from their own device at home. Plus, you can also easily share with parents: Photos and videos of students working hard in class Ideas for how they can help at home Important announcements and reminders Keep parents in the loop!

Class Story makes it easy to share classroom moments with parents, as well as updates and reminders. Your students will love sharing photos and videos on our Class Story – parents can even “like” your posts! Celebrate classroom moments

You can decide what happens with the points… You can set up the points for a classroom economy. You can have the points be self-motivating. You can encourage parents to use the points and set up a reward system at home. Or you can work within your school to have the points be intrinsically valuable. You decide based on your situation.
