Objectives: 10/17-10/20 Objectives: 1. I will know (knowledge): The new scientific discoveries that came out of this time period. 2. I will be able to (skill): help my classmates learn about some key scientists from the Scientific Revolution. Procedures: 1.Scientific Revolution notes 2.Scientist trading card 3.Scientific Revolution scientist chart Reminders: 1.Utopia projects! 2.RSP document charts due Friday, 10/ st Quarter grades go out on Monday 10/20

Scientific Revolution Shift from using alchemy (magic) to science to understand the mysteries of the world Scientific Revolution—using experiments and math to understand the world’s mysteries Scientific method—repeating experiments to help draw conclusions about observations New tools used: microscope, telescope, thermometer, etc.

The Earth Revolves Around What? Shut Yo Mouth! Geocentric Theory—Ptolemy (100s) said that the Earth was the center of the universe Heliocentric--Nicolaus Copernicus (1500s) said the sun was the center of the universe but couldn’t prove it Galileo and Kepler helped prove this theory using the telescope— church scholars blocked their publications

Galileo Galilei Astronomer who believed in the heliocentric theory Used the telescope to discover planet surfaces Realized that there were sun spots Faced conflict with the church during the Inquisition Pope declared Galileo’s work false because he thought it would weaken people’s faith

The Law of Gravity Isaac Newton- English scientist who developed the theory of motion-everything is made up of matter Law of Gravity- explained that the force that holds all planets in orbits causes things to fall 3 Laws of Motion—how force causes things to move and react with each other

Exit Ticket Exit Ticket: In your opinion, what was the #1 greatest discovery of any scientist? Why is it the greatest?

Partner Activity Work with a partner or on your own to create a dialogue between a scientist from the Renaissance and someone who disagrees with their new ideas. You can write it as a series of Tweets similar to arguments that happen all the time on Twitter today. You can write it like a facebook post with a bunch of comments back and forth between the two people. Or, if you don’t want to use the social media style, just simply write a normal dialogue between the two people. Include at least a total of 10 comments/statements.
