CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL DIVISION CHANGES FOR

CELEBRATE CURRENT MEMBERS OF LEADERS OF LEARNERS

INTRODUCE NEW MEMBERS OF LEADERS OF LEARNERS

Leadership, followship, culture, and community are the foundational blocks of a cohesive learning system. They are the heartbeat of what we aspire to be, and what we are creating. Systemworld Work Lifeworld Components

Compliance Commitment Covenant

The five winning demonstration sites – a mix of small and large, urban and rural, public school districts and public charter schools – will serve as proof points for the effective implementation of blended learning. Sites were chosen through a 10-month consideration process involving 75 semi-finalist teams and include: Birdville ISD (Tarrant County, northeast of Fort Worth) Cisco ISD (West Texas, east of Abilene) KIPP Houston (Harris County, Houston) Pasadena ISD (Harris County, southeast of Houston) Point Isabel ISD (Cameron County, Port Isabel

What are the changes we will have next year?

What it Takes

Some constraints that we have as we prepare for : New staff Budget and financial uncertainties Competition, such as the new Charter School External and internal demands Changes (predictable or unpredictable)

Making a Constraint Beautiful Change is about adaptation and innovation. Fixed Mindsets are incapable of adaptability and pliability. Growth mindset embraces change and becomes stronger from it.

The answer is simple. The core work and the initiatives that we have started. What remains the same? In other words, what is held tightly?

What are the changes we will have next year?

First Change is the Organizational Chart

Donna Solley, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Cindy Dubuis, Director of State and Federal Programs Acknowledge the work of true heroes.

First Change is the Organizational Chart

Second Changes are in LOL

LOL Changes: Dates: Every LOL Team will meet in the morning giving the campus the afternoon to extend their collaborative time together if the campus chooses to do so. (See Handout) Vacancies will be filled through an application process at the campus level. An application is being provided for principals to use. More clarification for membership is provided and principals are being asked to adhere to those requirements. (See Handout) Topic for LOL next year is Continuous Improvement and the primary role of LOL members will be to partner with the principal to train, coach, and mentor colleagues in using Birdville’s model for Continuous Improvement.

Third Change is the Adoption and Use of the New Portrait of a Graduate

Fourth Change is Infusion of Continuous Improvement Philosophy and Processes Into the Daily Work of Birdville ISD

Is this a new initiative or not? No, and here are supporting reasons……

PLANNING FOR LEARNING PROTOCOL: THE LESSON

P4LEADING Design clear, well-organized, sequential lessons that reflect best practice, align with standards, and are appropriate for diverse learners. PLANNING FOR LEADING

LEARNING EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS Sample

PLANNING FOR LEARNING PROTOCOL: DATA ANALYSIS

PLANNING FOR LEARNING PROTOCOL: REFLECTION

Quality improvement is eliminating random variation around an optimal targeted value. District Goals & Measures Aim of the District Aligned Acts of Improvement

DYNAMIC ORGANIZATIONS

Why Continuous Improvement? 1.Excellence is first a mindset, a way of thinking, a way of living, and a way of responding. 2.Excellence requires a commitment to mastery. 3.Excellence requires knowing and understanding what the work is and then developing a team approach for doing the work. 4.Excellence requires a game plan with all hands on deck executing the game plan. 5.Excellence requires a relentless commitment to the mission and purpose of our work. 6.Excellence requires preparation, processes, practice, and persistence. 7.Excellence requires a feedback loop, adopting standard operating procedures to review data, refocusing the team, and then making an appropriate response. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. Aristole

Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.

IS THE RESULT OF A PRAGMATIC, SYSTEMIC AND SYSTEMATIC PROCESS DRIVEN BY CUSTOMER NEEDS, EXPECTATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS.

“You don’t get the culture you want; you get the culture you build”. Urban Meyer

The art of life is a constant readjustment to our surroundings, calling on each of us to learn, make alterations, look for the best in others, be positive, and be resilient.
