Location The Poggio Scalette estate is located in the "Alta Valle della Greve" (Upper Valley of the Greve) IGT, situated in a small area between Greve and Panzano in Chianti. The vineyards are along the hill of Ruffoli, in the township of Greve, the very heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The town of Greve in Chianti takes its name from the stream which runs through and whose tributaries are to be found in the hills which encircle this medieval hamlet. Historically one of the major centers of production of Chianti Classico wine. The vineyards are located in a strip of land between feet above sea level.

History Poggio Scalette takes its name from the configuration of the hillside slopes, characterized as they are by lovely dry stone walls which sustain terraces of varying sizes. On these terraces vines or olive trees are planted according to the characteristics of the soil; seen from afar they give the impression of a series of staircase steps which climb the slopes of the hill of Ruffoli.

History Podere Poggio Scalette became an autonomous wine-producing estate in Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana Assjè di Marcorà acquired several plots of land and a rural building on the hill of Ruffoli. The property consisted of abandoned old stone farmhouses, vineyard land, olive groves, pasture land, and woods. In 1996 the estate was constituted and enlarged with the addition of an adjacent property with functional cellars and ample working spaces.

History It was discovered that the plot of land known as “Il Carbonaione” was the first area to be replanted after World War I ( ). These vines, more than 90 years old, are a rare example of the original clone of the famous “Sangiovese di Lamole” variety in the Chianti Classico area.

Family The estate is directly run by wife Adriana Assjè di Marcorà and son Jurij Fiore with the overall supervision of Vittorio Fiore. The marketing of the wines has been assigned to son Roberto for the Italian domestic market and to son Alessandro for export markets.

Owner/Winemaker Vittorio Fiore Born in Fortezza in the region of Trentino Alto Adige. Attended the Scuola Tecnica in San Michele all’Adige and graduated from the Istituto Tecnico Agrario in Conegliano. Spent the next 10 years working for several wineries in northern Italy From he was the Director of the Italian Association of Enologists. In 1978 he virtually invented the profession of consulting winemaker. Consultant for Tenuta Caparzo, Costanti, Poggio Salvi, Vecchie Terre di Montefi li, Fattoria Viticcio, Fattoria Terrabianca and Borgo Scopeto. He has played a vital part in Tuscanyʼs emergence as a world- class red wine producer.

Capogatto Alta Valle della Greve IGT 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 25% Petit Verdot Capogatto is the Tuscan name for the old method used to train and propagate the vines in the vineyards, a process technically known as "layering.” Aromas of black cherry fruit, licorice, violets, black pepper, and cigar box. This wine has superb balance among the silky tannins, weight, lively acidity, and evolving finish. Pair with braised beef, poached steaks, and even risotto ai funghi.

Chianti Classico DOCG 100% Sangiovese Has a wide and diversified bouquet, with aromas of red cherry, blackberry, and pomegranate. On the palate, it is a fresh and fruit-forward wine, particularly with its soft, velvety tannins and its long finish. Pairs with a wide range of dishes: Thai massaman curry, Turmeric-roasted lamb shank, and even thick tomato stews.

Il Carbonaione Alta Valle della Greve IGT 100% Sangiovese The vines here, some more than 75 years old, are rare clonal examples of the famous “Sangiovese di Lamole” varietal in the Chianti Classico area. Aromas of blackberries and currants. This is a full-bodied, rich wine with an exuberant personality and great aging potential. Recommended with red meats, such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised short ribs, venison or lamb, and aged cheeses.
