Should businesses, labor unions and individuals have the right to contribute as much money as they want to political candidates running for federal offices?
Laws limit the amount individuals and groups may contribute to federal, state, and local candidates. Why do you think that is? (write it down in blank)
In Virginia’s state and local campaigns, campaign contributions received by a candidate are unlimited but must be reported.
States usually place limits on contributions to candidates from various sources, and also contributions to political action committees (PACs), and political parties. Only FOUR states have no limits on contributions: Missouri, Oregon, Utah, and Virginia
Congress has passed laws to regulate the use of money in presidential and congressional campaigns FECA provides for a system of financing based on three principles: 1) Public funding of presidential elections 2) Limitations on the amounts presidential and congressional candidates may receive from contributors 3) Public disclosure of the amounts candidates spend to get elected

Rising campaign costs require candidates to conduct extensive fundraising activities… And fundraising is increasingly done online.
